The RIMC examination serves several important purposes:
- Military Leadership: RIMC trains young boys to become future leaders in the Indian Armed Forces.

- Preparation for NDA: RIMC prepares students for the National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance examination.
To appear for the RIMC entrance examination, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Age Limit: Candidates must be between 11.5 and 13.5 years of age as of January 1st or July 1st of the examination year.
- Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have completed their Class 7th (or equivalent) from a recognized school at the time of admission to the RIMC.
The RIMC entrance examination consists of a written test, a viva voce (interview), and a medical examination. The written test includes questions in subjects such as English, Mathematics, and General Knowledge. Successful candidates are then called for an interview and medical examination.
After completing their training at RIMC, students have the opportunity to appear for the NDA entrance examination and pursue a career in the Indian Armed Forces as officers.
